So-Ann is a recently released political prisoner detained by US Marines in April 2004 and held in prison without charge for more than two years by the Canada-backed regime that followed the February 29, 2004 foreign invasion and coup against Haiti.

Vancouver: March 7, 2007: What are women to do? They have their own internationally recognized day This year, women are invited to leave the dishes in the sink, set aside their multi-tasking and enjoy an evening out with other women celebrating and spoken word. It will include performances by the 40-woman strong specifically written for women, the Chalice Choir of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, and the No Shit Shirleys, eight sassy, soulful women who offer a capella versions of everything from Afro-Cuban Orisha songs to Native American Lullabies. Readings by girls and women will focus on the indomitable female spirit and the strength women find with, and for, each other.

The event takes place at 7:30 pm Wednesday, March 7 in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 West 49 Avenue, Vancouver. Bring your Mom, sister, daughter or friend!

Admission is by donation. Funds raised will be donated to Canadian Women to Grandmothers Campaign.

Vancouver: Friday March 16, 2007: A Celebration of International Women's Day. Keynote Speaker: Dr.Sarah Weddington. Counsel in the landmark Roe v. Wade case. 7:00 am - 9:00am

Sheraton Wall Centre. Dr. Sarah Weddington is an internationally known attorney and spokesperson on women, leadership and public issues. She was counsel in the Roe v. Wade case, one of the most politically significant cases in U.S Supreme Court history. Dr. Weddington is believed to be the youngest person ever to win a case before the US Supreme Court. This event helps support important legal and education work in communities around BC. In particular, this event raises money for our youth anti-violence workshops, "No Means No", and the development of our new Youth in the Workplace program. We are drawing a connection between democracy renewal and the need for more female representation in politics in Alberta and one of the 9 areas of focus is Promoting Effective Gender Equality. We are asking women who attend to wear pink to show solidarity with gender equality issues and we will also provide pink armbands. We are having a presentation on Martha’s Monthly (see our website for details on Martha’s Monthly) and there will be sample letters to the Premier which women can sign and send.
