  • Reduced Vacation Time and Elimination of Vacation Bonus
  • Elimination of Two Paid Holidays
  • Reduction of Two Paid Holidays
  • Reduction in Pension for New Employees
  • Right to Double the Number of Part-time Employees and Hire Students for Five+ Months a year

FirstOntario Credit Union is demanding massive concessions at the bargaining table. Management takes the position that clawbacks and concessions are necessary despite boasting recently of record profits.

Lee Lakeman, feminist author and activist, will be the guest speaker at the upcoming London Abused Women's Centre seventh annual International Women's Day breakfast and auction. Lakeman has published numerous articles and is the principal author of a study that examined the cases of 100 assaulted women and how their cases were ignored or mishandled by emergency services, the police and the courts. She is also a member of the World March of Women and has helped establish and foster transition houses in Japan, Indonesia, Russia, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

The breakfast meeting will take place at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn, March 2, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Items up for auction include trip packages, passes to the Grand Theatre, Ontario Place, CN Tower, jewelry, 14 tickets to a box suite at the JLC for a London Knight' game and golf and spa packages, to name a few items. A Century of Women and Work: Exhibit Launch

The OFL and the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre proudly announce the launch of "A Century of Women and Work", an art exhibit that reflects a century of women's transformation of their work and their world.

Ten Canadian women artists have created an art piece for each decade, beginning in 1900 and ending with the transition to the new millennium. Along with the artwork is a booklet that tells the story of women and work.

The exhibit will be on display at in the Rotunda, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, Toronto from Monday, March 5 to noon on Friday March 16, 2007.

Titled "What's the difference? Women in Leadership, Women in Law," the program will include several panel discussions throughout the day and early evening and the 2007 Cecil A. Wright Lecture. Ayanna will speak about creating a space for her work; her involvement in cultural/arts organizations; and the complex issues of diversity as they emerged over the past 20 years.

The Centre for Women's Studies in Education was established in July 1983 bringing together an existing core of feminist faculty, professional research staff (research officers) and graduate students involved in the study of women and education.

À l'occasion de la journée internationale des femmes, le Centre des Femmes de Saint-Laurent organise un double événement:

  • Le théâtre Parminou présente une pièce intitulée " LE GRAND SAUT " Pourquoi trop peu de femmes sont présentes sur la scène politique municipale? " Le grand saut " tentera de répondre à cette grande question. Nous y suivrons le parcours de Geneviève qui est sollicitée pour faire partie d'une équipe de conseillers de sa ville. Cette demande éveillera chez elle toute une gamme d'émotions. Fera-t-elle ou non le grand saut?
  • La présentation d'un manifeste à nos élus locaux La Déclaration Citoyenne des Femmes de Saint-Laurent

    Pour nous faire entendre et nous assurer de la prise en compte de la réalité des Femmes dans le développement de notre arrondissement, nous présenterons la Déclaration Citoyenne des Femmes de Saint-Laurent. Celle-ci est le fruit d'une réflexion par une trentaine de femmes représentatives du profil des laurentiennes qui se sont réunies pour discuter autour de la question : Que faut-il améliorer à Saint-Laurent pour faire de notre arrondissement un quartier où il fait bon vivre du point de vue des femmes?

Femmes du Monde à Côte-des-Neiges "Les femmes prennent en main les défis de leur quartier": ateliers pour la journée internationale des femmes 2007

À l'occasion de la Journée internationale des femmes 2007, Femmes du Monde à Côte-des-Neiges organise une série d'ateliers " Défis et recherche de solutions ". Les thématiques suivantes serons discutées par les participantes avec l'objectif de cibler particulièrement les défis que vivent les femmes dans leur propre quartier : discrimination, isolement des femmes, relations hommes/femmes, pauvreté, santé. Le retour en plénière permettra le lancement du Comité actions du centre. Clôture festive à base de couscous et danses.

La reconnaissance du droit à l'égalité entre les sexes a toujours été le cheval de bataille du mouvement des femmes. Au Canada et au Québec, les chartes et d'autres lois ont enchâssé ce droit dont la portée et la mise en oeuvre présentent malgré tout des difficultés dans un contexte de diversité croissante sur les plans culturel et religieux. La pratique de la polygamie constitue un exemple où le droit à l'égalité entre les sexes peut se heurter à celui de la liberté religieuse. Comment régler ce conflit? Y a-t-il vraiment un conflit? Lequel des deux droits devrait avoir préséance? Les panélistes aborderont les aspects juridiques, religieux, sociologiques et genrés de cette problématique.
