Feminist Activism in Conservative Times

Feminist Activism in Conservative Times. If you are interested in
participating, please fill out the registration form and return
it to the Antigonish Women's Resource Centre no later than March
2, 2007.
Feminist Activism in Conservative Times is a one-day conference
held around International Women's Day that will engage feminist
activists in a discussion about these and other key issues. Participants
will be invited to enter into a dialogue about past and present
experiences in feminist social activism, highlighting challenges

The Women's Place Resource Centre and the Nova Scotia Advisory
Council on the Status of Women are celebrating. What are we celebrating?
Being a woman, of course! March 8th is International Women's Day.
This year, we plan to bring the event into the community of Bridgetown.
- From 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm, local women artists will create
pieces that celebrate women. The artists will be creating this
art at Bridgetown Town Hall, the Scotiabank, Pharmasave, Endless
Shores Bookstore, Graves Valuefoods, Cinnamon Creek and Bill &
Lee's Pizza.
- From 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, women musicians will be holding
a song writers circle at the End of the Line Pub, creating a song
that will be the theme for this area's celebration of International
Women's Day.
- From 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm, there will be a reception at The
Women's Place, showcasing the pieces of art and the creators,
including the theme song.
We hope everyone can join them in the celebration of women. Maps
outlining where the artists will be are available at the participating
businesses and at The Women's Place at 38 Queen Street in Bridgetown.
A special thank you to the artists and the businesses for helping

International Women's Day and Second Story Women's Centre's Anniversary

2007 marks the 30th anniversary of International Women's Day (IWD)
and the 24th anniversary of Second
Story Women's Centre. IWD was established in 1977 by the United
Nations and provides an opportunity to celebrate the progress made
to advance women's rights and to assess the challenges that remain."

This year Second Story will be taking our message out to the community
with a display in the Community Booth at the Bridgewater Mall. We
will be onsite there from noon until 8:00 pm. If you are in the

The Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women and Nova
Scotia Community College invite you to a reception to honour women
who work in trades and technology. Women in trades and technology
are the focus of two events, in Halifax and Bridgewater (see above),
to celebrate International Women's Day. Join us for coffee and chocolates,
and to meet some of the women who are paving new career path for
working women. It's a chance to meet some of the women studying

of the Year Award event at the Labour Temple on Kempt Road on Saturday
March 10 from 2-4pm NSFL honour a sister each year for her involvement

this award and the NSFL presents a plaque and roses/bread ...holds

IWD Event for LEA Place Women's Resource Centre
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Masonic Hall in Sheet Harbour
LEA Place Women's Resource Centre will be screening "A Healing
Journey Home", a film by Jackie Fletcher about the residential school
experience and its impact on the native community. Jackie was an
active member of LEA Place while she lived and worked in the community.
She currently resides in Ontario, where she moved some years ago
to be closer to her family. It is planned to have Jackie available
via teleconference following the screening to answer questions arising
from the movie. Refreshments will be served.

The Every Woman's Centre is planning a woman's concert for March
8th, 2007 at the Sydney Curling Club. Admission is $6.00 waged and
$3.00 un-waged. The concert will run from 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
While the Every Woman's Centre has only been open for 15 years,
the concert has been running for 30 years.

St. John's IWD Brunch. Trade union activist and feminist, Lana also
writes a biweekly column for The Telegram, the provincial newspaper.
